EV charger installation in Eastern Sydney & Bayside

An EV charger needs more than a convenient wall. Apexelec assesses the electrical supply, board, cable route and parking arrangement before defining the installation scope. We can discuss home charging, strata projects and commercial charging enquiries.

What we can help with

  • Supply and switchboard assessment
  • Charger position and cable-route planning
  • Home and shared-property installation scopes
  • Metering and load-management considerations

Prepare for a useful quote

Include your suburb, property type, a description of the job and any relevant equipment models. Photos of accessible fittings or the outside of the switchboard can help. Do not remove covers or expose wiring to take photographs.

For a shared property, provide the strata or building contact and any approval or access requirements. We can discuss whether an on-site assessment is needed to confirm the scope.

Questions about ev charger installation

How much does a home EV charger installation cost in Sydney?

The quote depends on the charger, distance from the switchboard, cable access, available electrical capacity and any board or supply work. Send your vehicle and charger model, parking location and board-exterior photos. We can then identify the assessment needed and separate installation costs from optional upgrades.

Do I need three-phase power for an EV charger?

Not always. Many home chargers operate on single-phase power. The useful charging speed depends on the supply, charger and the vehicle's onboard charging limit. We assess your daily driving and available capacity before recommending a setup; a higher-rated charger does not automatically make every car charge faster.

Will my switchboard need upgrading before a charger is installed?

It needs assessment, not an automatic replacement. Spare space, circuit protection, existing demand and the condition of the board and supply all matter. The quote should explain whether a dedicated circuit, load management, board work or a supply upgrade is needed.

Can I install an EV charger in an apartment parking space?

Possibly, subject to the building's electrical capacity, cable route, metering and approvals. Contact the owners corporation or strata manager before buying equipment. A parking space with a nearby outlet is not proof that the building can support charging or that use of common-property electricity is approved.

Who pays for charging electricity in a strata building?

The owners corporation and relevant owner need to agree on the connection and billing arrangement. Options can involve the resident's meter or a shared supply with approved usage charging. Confirm who pays for installation, electricity, ongoing management and maintenance before the charger is connected.

Can you install a charger I have already bought?

Send the exact model and installation manual first. We need to check Australian suitability, vehicle compatibility, protection requirements, site conditions and the supply. An install-only enquiry can be assessed, but equipment suitability and the agreed scope must be confirmed before booking.

Can an EV charger use my solar power?

Some chargers support solar-aware charging, but this depends on the charger, metering and compatible controls. Solar generation also changes through the day. Tell us about your inverter, any battery and when the car is usually parked at home so the options can be assessed.

Can a charger be installed outside or a long way from the board?

These locations can be considered, but the equipment's outdoor suitability, mounting, cable protection and route affect the design and cost. Include photos and approximate distances with your enquiry. Avoid buying a charger solely on the assumption that it can be mounted anywhere.

How long does an EV charger installation take?

A straightforward installation may be completed in one visit after assessment and approvals. Long cable runs, trenching, strata access, supply changes or board upgrades can require additional work. We confirm the likely duration and any power interruption once the installation scope is clear.

Does an EV charger need approval from the electricity distributor?

It can, particularly if the installation changes the supply or adds load that requires network assessment. Your electrician should check the distributor's connection requirements for the proposed installation. Strata approval and electricity-network approval are separate matters, and both may need to be addressed.
