- Power points and additional circuits
- Fixed-appliance electrical connections
- Electrical work for renovations
Prepare for a useful quote
Include your suburb, property type, a description of the job and any relevant equipment models. Photos of accessible fittings or the outside of the switchboard can help. Do not remove covers or expose wiring to take photographs.
For a shared property, provide the strata or building contact and any approval or access requirements. We can discuss whether an on-site assessment is needed to confirm the scope.
Questions about electrical repairs & installations
What electrical repairs and installations can Apexelec help with?
We accept enquiries for lighting, power points, wiring faults, switchboards, fixed-appliance connections and related property upgrades. Tell us the symptom or intended change and the property type. That helps us direct the enquiry to a repair, an installation assessment or a larger coordinated scope.
Is a small electrical job worth booking?
Yes, you can enquire about a single faulty fitting or outlet. Small jobs still need the right access, testing and materials. If you have several non-urgent items, list them together so we can consider them in one scope and explain the booking arrangements.
How much does an electrician cost in Sydney?
The price depends on the work, attendance arrangements, access, materials and testing. Ask what any assessment or fault-finding charge includes, whether the price is fixed or time-based, and how additional work is approved. We confirm the proposed scope and pricing arrangements for your job.
Do I need a licensed electrician to replace a power point or switch?
Yes. Electrical wiring work in NSW requires a licensed electrician, including fixed-wiring alterations and replacements. A familiar-looking fitting does not make the work a DIY task. Keep damaged equipment out of use and arrange a professional assessment.
Guidance: NSW electrical safety guidance
What should I send when requesting an electrical quote?
Include your suburb, property type, job description, affected rooms and any product models. Clear photos of accessible fittings and the switchboard exterior can help. Tell us about parking, tenant or strata access, and other work planned at the property. Do not expose wiring for a photo.
Can electrical repairs and planned upgrades be quoted together?
Yes. Separate the fault that needs attention from optional improvements such as additional outlets or new lights. This makes priorities clear and allows the repair and upgrade work to be assessed together without assuming the same cause or circuit requirements.
Can you work in a rental property or strata apartment?
We can discuss work with the owner, managing agent or authorised strata contact. Confirm who can approve the scope and provide access. Work involving shared wiring, common areas or alterations may need additional permission before it can proceed.
Guidance: NSW strata renovation guidance
Will I lose power during electrical work?
Some work requires isolation of a circuit, while other work affects the broader supply. The expected interruption depends on the job. Mention any essential equipment and preferred access times before booking so the shutdown can be considered in the work plan.
What should I do about a hot outlet, burning smell or electrical shock?
Keep people away and stop using the affected equipment. For smoke, fire, injury or immediate danger, move to safety and call 000. Report shocks and tingles to your electricity distributor immediately; Ausgrid customers can call 13 13 88. Do not touch the equipment again to test it.
Guidance: Ausgrid shocks and tingles guidance
Will I receive an electrical compliance certificate?
Electrical installation work must be tested, and NSW requires a CCEW for work such as installing, repairing, adding or altering equipment in an installation. Ask for your copy and keep it with the job records. An inspection report and a certificate for completed electrical work serve different purposes.
