Outdoor, garden & security lighting
Lighting for a welcoming entry, a useful outdoor space and better visibility after dark.

Outdoor, garden & security lighting in Eastern Sydney & Bayside
A well-positioned light can make the front entry easier to use or turn a dark patio into a comfortable evening space. Apexelec scopes outdoor lighting around the property layout, weather exposure and how you want to control it. We can discuss new garden and pathway lighting, sensor lights, floodlights and replacement exterior fittings.
From our work

What we can help with
- Entry, driveway and pathway lighting
- Garden and entertaining-area lighting
- Sensor lights and security floodlights
- Outdoor switching and control enquiries
- Replacement of damaged or unsuitable exterior fittings
Choose the purpose before the fitting
Tell us whether you want a brighter front door, visibility along a path or softer lighting for an outdoor table. Mounting positions, the direction of light and the surrounding spaces should be considered together. For sensor lights, describe the areas that should trigger the light and neighbouring areas you want to avoid.
Exposure and access shape the installation
Provide photos showing whether the location is sheltered or exposed to rain and coastal conditions. Include gardens, paving and the route back to the house. Equipment suitability and cable access are assessed for the site, with any excavation or surface restoration discussed before work is agreed.
What to send with your enquiry
- Photos of the outdoor area and proposed fitting locations
- The purpose of each light and preferred controls
- Existing lighting and known faults
- Weather exposure and accessible cable routes
- Any landscaping, paving or building work planned
Questions about outdoor, garden & security lighting
How much does garden or outdoor lighting installation cost?
The quote depends on fitting count, cable routes, mounting, landscape access, controls and existing circuits. Explain whether you need pathway, entertaining-area, feature or security lighting. Include planned landscaping so underground routes and finishing responsibilities can be considered before the work is arranged.
What weatherproof rating do outdoor lights need?
There is no single rating suitable for every location. Rain exposure, shelter, cleaning, mounting and the product's intended use all matter. The fitting and its installation must suit the actual environment; an IP rating alone does not establish resistance to every form of corrosion or exposure.
Are standard outdoor lights suitable near the coast?
Check the manufacturer's coastal-use conditions and material suitability. Salt exposure can affect equipment even in a sheltered position. Tell us about rust, repeated failures and the mounting location so replacement choices are based on the exposure rather than simply copying the old fitting.
Should garden lighting be low-voltage or mains-powered?
The choice depends on the layout, distances, brightness and suitable equipment. Low-voltage systems still need an appropriate power source, cable design and protection. Fixed mains wiring requires a licensed electrician; do not treat a low-voltage fitting as permission to alter a mains installation.

Can outdoor lighting cables be installed underground?
A suitable route can be assessed. Existing services, paving, garden beds, protection and electrical requirements affect the work. Share the landscape plan before excavation. Trenching and reinstatement should be included or clearly allocated in the agreed scope rather than assumed part of every lighting quote.
Can outdoor lights use motion sensors, timers or smart controls?
Compatible controls can be considered with the selected lights and wiring. Describe the intended operating times, coverage and manual override needs. Sensor position, ambient conditions and product compatibility affect performance, so the lighting and control should be planned together.
Why does an outdoor light make the safety switch trip after rain?
Moisture ingress, damaged cables, connections or equipment can be involved. Stop using the affected installation and arrange assessment. Do not repeatedly reset the protection or open a wet fitting. The cause should be identified before assuming a new globe or seal will resolve it.

Can existing outdoor lights be replaced in the same position?
Possibly, if the mounting, wiring and environment are suitable for the replacement. Existing damage or recurring moisture faults need assessment. Send photos and product details; using the same location does not automatically make a different fitting suitable.
How can I avoid outdoor lights shining into neighbours' homes?
Discuss beam direction, mounting height, shielding, brightness and operating times before choosing fittings. Strata permissions or local requirements may also apply. A useful design lights the intended path or activity area without relying on unnecessarily broad or bright coverage.
Can I install outdoor lighting myself?
Fixed electrical wiring work requires a licensed electrician in NSW. Some complete plug-in or solar products have user installation instructions, but that does not permit altering mains wiring, outlets or circuits. Send the product details if you are unsure what the installation involves.
