Prepare for a useful quote

Include your suburb, property type, a description of the job and any relevant equipment models. Photos of accessible fittings or the outside of the switchboard can help. Do not remove covers or expose wiring to take photographs.

For a shared property, provide the strata or building contact and any approval or access requirements. We can discuss whether an on-site assessment is needed to confirm the scope.

Questions about data, wifi & communications

What does data cabling installation include?

A scope can include data outlets, cable runs, a patch panel, a network cabinet and connections for computers, access points or cameras. Tell us which devices need wired connections and where the internet equipment is located. Equipment supply and network configuration should be identified separately in the quote.

Do I need a registered cabler for data wiring?

For regulated communications cabling, use a cabler with the appropriate current registration and competencies. An electrical licence alone does not establish every communications-cabling credential. ACMA explains how to check registration and the written compliance statement customers should receive.

Should I choose Cat6 or Cat6A cabling?

The choice depends on the network's performance goals, run lengths, connected equipment and installation conditions. Cat6A can suit more demanding planned networks, while Cat6 may meet many household needs. We assess the whole connection rather than treating a cable label as a guarantee of internet speed.

Will new data cabling make my NBN connection faster?

It can improve an internal connection where old cabling or WiFi is the limitation. It cannot increase the speed of your internet plan or repair every provider-side issue. Explain whether the problem affects wired devices, WiFi devices or both so the right part of the connection is assessed.

Can power points and data outlets be installed together?

Yes, their positions can be planned in the same scope. Electrical and communications wiring still have separate installation requirements. Share desk locations, device lists and future needs so the layout is useful without relying on extension leads or poorly placed network equipment.

Can the NBN connection box or router be moved?

Router placement and internal cabling can often be considered. Carrier-owned equipment and cabling must not be moved or altered as ordinary customer cabling work. Tell us the NBN technology and which device you want moved; we can identify whether the internet provider or NBN needs to be involved.

Can you install a data rack or network cabinet for a business?

We can scope a cabinet, patching and related cabling around your equipment and premises. Provide the device count, floor plan and existing connections. Access, ventilation, power, cable organisation and future expansion should be considered, along with who will configure and manage the network.

Can network cables power cameras or WiFi access points?

Compatible Power over Ethernet equipment can carry power and data through the network connection. The device, switch or injector, cable installation and power budget must suit each other. Send model details before assuming an existing router or outlet will supply the device.

Guidance: Axis camera system guidance

Can cabling be added to an existing home or apartment?

Often, but roof, floor and wall access affect the route and how much finishing work is needed. For apartments, confirm approvals for common-property routes. Send a plan and the proposed outlet positions so concealed and surface-route options can be assessed.

Guidance: NSW strata renovation guidance

What documentation should I receive for communications cabling?

A registered cabler should provide a signed written statement confirming compliance with the relevant cabling requirements. Ask for outlet identification and any agreed test results as part of the scope. Keep those records with your network layout so later maintenance is easier.
