Electrical fault finding & repairs in Eastern Sydney & Bayside

A circuit that keeps tripping or a light that works only sometimes needs the cause assessed. Apexelec investigates electrical faults in homes and small properties across Randwick and Bayside. Tell us what is happening, which rooms are affected and when the problem started so we can discuss the initial assessment and access needed.

What we can help with

  • Recurring circuit and safety-switch trips
  • Intermittent loss of power to rooms or outlets
  • Faulty lighting, switches and fittings
  • Assessment of wiring and connection concerns
  • Repair options following fault diagnosis

Describe the pattern you have noticed

Useful details include whether the problem affects one fitting or several rooms, whether it started after a new appliance was connected, and whether it happens during wet weather or at a particular time. Share what you have already observed; you do not need to recreate the fault or open equipment to explain it.

Assessment comes before a repair scope

Similar symptoms can have different causes. The assessment may involve the installation, connected equipment or more than one issue. We discuss what can be inspected, explain the findings and agree the repair work. If access or further investigation is needed, that forms part of the discussion before additional work proceeds.

What to send with your enquiry

  • Which rooms, outlets or lights are affected
  • When the fault started and how often it occurs
  • Equipment in use when the problem happens
  • Any recent building work or electrical changes
  • Property access and the contact authorised to approve work

Questions about electrical fault finding & repairs

What is electrical fault finding?

It is a systematic assessment and testing process to locate the cause of a problem in an installation or connected equipment. Symptoms can be similar even when causes differ. Finding the source helps define the repair instead of simply replacing a fitting that happens to be affected.

Why does my safety switch keep tripping?

Possible causes include faulty equipment, moisture, damaged wiring or leakage from more than one source. The pattern helps the investigation, but it does not establish the diagnosis. Do not repeatedly reset a device that keeps tripping or bypass it; arrange an electrical assessment.

Why does a circuit breaker trip when appliances run together?

An overload is one possibility, but appliance or wiring faults can produce similar symptoms. Tell us which equipment is running and which circuit is affected. Adding a larger breaker without checking the wiring and load is not an appropriate solution.

Can you find a fault that only happens sometimes?

Intermittent faults can be investigated, although they may take longer to identify. Record when the issue occurs, affected equipment, weather conditions and any warning signs. Do not deliberately reproduce a dangerous fault; useful observations can narrow the testing required.

How much does electrical fault finding cost?

The extent of testing, access, number of affected circuits and time needed to reproduce an intermittent issue affect the cost. Ask what the initial diagnostic work covers and how repair costs are approved. A diagnosis may need to be established before a fixed repair price is possible.

Is the problem in my appliance or the house wiring?

Either can be responsible, and testing may be needed to distinguish them. Describe whether the symptom occurs with one appliance or across multiple outlets or rooms. Keep suspect equipment out of use. Fixed-wiring assessment and internal appliance repair can involve different scopes.

What should I do if I smell burning or see scorch marks?

Stop using the affected equipment and keep people away. If there is smoke, fire, injury or immediate danger, move to safety and call 000. Otherwise seek urgent electrical advice. Do not touch a damaged fitting or keep switching it on to confirm the smell.

Who should I call if the whole street loses power?

Check your electricity distributor's outage information from a safe location. A wider network outage needs the distributor's response, while a fault confined to your property may need an electrician. Shocks, tingles, fallen wires and other network hazards should be reported immediately to the distributor.

Does a modern switchboard rule out old wiring faults?

No. The board may have been replaced while some circuits remained unchanged. Wiring condition, joints, fittings and connected equipment still need assessment. Tell us about previous work and provide any reports or certificates without assuming a recent board makes all wiring new.

What information should I have ready when booking fault finding?

Note the affected rooms, when the problem began, tripping behaviour, appliance models and whether neighbours are affected. Include any previous repair history and accessible photos. Do not remove covers. Mention urgent warning signs when you call so the enquiry can be prioritised appropriately.
