Oven, cooktop & appliance electrical installation
Electrical connections and circuit assessment for your new oven, cooktop or fixed appliance.

Oven, cooktop & appliance electrical installation in Eastern Sydney & Bayside
A new oven or cooktop needs an electrical connection that suits its requirements and your home. Apexelec can assess the existing circuit, connection arrangement and equipment specifications before installation. We can discuss a replacement appliance, an induction upgrade or new equipment being installed during a kitchen renovation.
From our work

What we can help with
- Electrical disconnection and connection of fixed appliances
- Oven and electric cooktop replacement enquiries
- Induction cooktop electrical preparation
- New or modified appliance circuits where required
- Coordination with the kitchen or appliance installer
Send the model before booking
Include the exact appliance model and the manufacturer’s electrical requirements. Also tell us what equipment is being replaced and where the connection is located. Two appliances that fit the same cabinet opening can have different electrical requirements, so the physical size alone does not establish the installation scope.
Plan an induction upgrade as a complete change
Changing cooking equipment may involve the existing supply, circuit protection and a cable route from the switchboard. Share the kitchen plan before finishes are completed. Any gas disconnection, cabinet changes or plumbing work should be arranged with the relevant trade and identified separately from the electrical scope.
What to send with your enquiry
- New and existing appliance model details
- Manufacturer installation specifications
- Photos of the equipment location and accessible connection
- A photo of the switchboard exterior
- Delivery date, installer details and any renovation work
Questions about oven, cooktop & appliance electrical installation
Do I need an electrician to install an oven or cooktop?
A hardwired appliance or a change to fixed wiring requires a licensed electrician. A genuine plug-in appliance still needs a suitable existing outlet and must follow its instructions. Send the exact model so the connection type and site requirements can be checked before installation.

Can a new oven use the existing oven circuit?
Possibly, but its rating, connection instructions, circuit protection and existing wiring must be suitable. Similar external dimensions do not prove the electrical requirements are the same. Supply the new appliance details and describe the existing connection so compatibility can be assessed.
Does an induction cooktop need three-phase power?
Not necessarily. Connection options vary by model, and the available supply and total property demand also matter. Do not assume all induction cooktops have the same requirements. Have the selected product's instructions and the installation assessed before buying equipment based on a phase assumption.

Can a full-size cooktop run from an ordinary power point?
Only if the actual product is designed for that connection and the outlet and circuit are suitable. Many built-in models require a specific wired supply. Check the model instructions rather than relying on advice about a different appliance, and avoid extension leads or improvised adaptors.

How much does electrical appliance installation cost?
An uncomplicated replacement differs from work needing a new circuit, isolation arrangement, board changes or difficult cable access. Share the appliance model, location and existing setup. The quote should identify the electrical connection scope and whether any cabinetry or other trades are required.
Can you connect an appliance I have purchased myself?
You can request an installation assessment for customer-supplied equipment. Send the exact model, manual and delivery date before booking. We need to confirm suitability, the required supply and access; the appliance's physical fit and any other trade work should also be arranged.
What should I check before ordering a new oven or cooktop?
Confirm cabinet or bench dimensions, ventilation requirements and the electrical connection specifications. Ask for assessment of the existing circuit if the new appliance has different demands. Early checks can identify electrical or joinery changes before delivery creates pressure to improvise an installation.

Can I replace a gas cooktop with an induction cooktop?
The electrical supply and new appliance installation can be assessed, but gas disconnection is a separate licensed trade task. Coordinate the gas work, bench opening, ventilation and electrical requirements. Reusing the old location does not by itself confirm that suitable electrical wiring is present.
Why does my appliance trip the power when it is used?
The cause may be in the appliance, its connection or the installation. Keep suspect equipment out of use and describe when the trip occurs. Fault finding can help identify whether electrical installation work or an appliance service technician is needed.
Guidance: NSW electrical safety guidance
Is a compliance certificate needed for a like-for-like oven replacement?
NSW's CCEW guidance includes like-for-like replacement of equipment such as ovens and stove tops within an electrical installation. The work must be tested and the required certificate lodged. Ask for your copy and keep it with the appliance and installation records.
