Intercoms & access control
Entry systems for apartments, homes and commercial premises.

Intercoms & access control in Eastern Sydney & Bayside
Apexelec can help assess intercom faults, replacement systems and access-control projects. Existing handsets, entry panels, door hardware and wiring should be considered as a system. In shared buildings, we coordinate the scope with the contact authorised to arrange the work.

What we can help with
- Intercom fault assessment
- Entry-panel and handset enquiries
- Access-control installation scopes
- Shared-building coordination
Prepare for a useful quote
Include your suburb, property type, a description of the job and any relevant equipment models. Photos of accessible fittings or the outside of the switchboard can help. Do not remove covers or expose wiring to take photographs.
For a shared property, provide the strata or building contact and any approval or access requirements. We can discuss whether an on-site assessment is needed to confirm the scope.
Questions about intercoms & access control
Can a faulty intercom be repaired without replacing the whole system?
Sometimes. The problem may involve a handset, entry panel, power supply, cabling or door-release hardware. Tell us whether one unit or the entire building is affected and what functions fail. Diagnosis helps establish whether a targeted repair or broader upgrade is appropriate.
Can I replace just the intercom handset in my apartment?
Only if the replacement is compatible with the building's system. Similar-looking handsets can use different wiring and communication methods. Send the make, model and symptoms, and involve the strata contact before changing equipment that connects to a shared system.
Can existing intercom wiring be reused for a video upgrade?
Possibly, depending on its condition, layout and the new system's requirements. An upgrade needs assessment of the entry panel, handsets, power and door hardware together. Existing cables should not be assumed suitable solely because they worked with an older audio system.
How much does an intercom or access-control upgrade cost?
The number of entries and residences, wiring condition, door hardware, desired features and access arrangements affect the quote. Provide the current system details and whether the enquiry is for one unit or the building. Shared-building upgrades usually need a coordinated scope.
Can an intercom open a door or gate?
Compatible systems can operate suitable door or gate controls. The lock, controller, power supply, exit arrangements and site requirements need assessment together. We scope entry operation without assuming an existing lock or gate mechanism can connect directly to any new intercom.
Can residents answer a video intercom on their phones?
Some systems support app-based answering and remote access. This depends on the chosen equipment, network and any subscriptions. Confirm which users need access, what happens if internet is unavailable, and who manages accounts when occupants change.
Do I need strata approval for intercom work?
Involve the strata manager or authorised building contact where shared entry panels, wiring, access control or common property are involved. Approval requirements depend on the proposed change and the scheme. Confirm responsibility and permissions before ordering a replacement or upgrade.

Can an intercom integrate with CCTV or access control?
Some compatible products can work together, but integration must be checked for the specific models and required functions. Send the existing equipment details and explain the intended workflow. A common brand name alone does not establish full compatibility.
What information should I provide about an intercom fault?
Describe ringing, audio, video and door-release behaviour separately. Say whether other units have the same issue and include accessible model photos. Also provide the building contact and access to shared equipment. Do not open panels or alter wiring to investigate.
Who should install or service an access-control system?
Use appropriately qualified people for the equipment and wiring involved. NSW security-equipment work has separate security licensing requirements, and communications cabling may require a registered cabler. Ask about those credentials when arranging the scope, especially for a shared-building system.
