Camera layouts, network connections and practical monitoring access.

CCTV & security systems in Eastern Sydney & Bayside
Apexelec can scope CCTV and security installations for homes, shared properties and small businesses. We start with the areas you want to monitor, the network connection and how authorised users will access the system. Camera positions should be planned before equipment is selected.

What we can help with
- Camera positioning and cable routes
- Network-connected security systems
- Authorised remote viewing setup
- Security work within fitout scopes
Prepare for a useful quote
Include your suburb, property type, a description of the job and any relevant equipment models. Photos of accessible fittings or the outside of the switchboard can help. Do not remove covers or expose wiring to take photographs.
For a shared property, provide the strata or building contact and any approval or access requirements. We can discuss whether an on-site assessment is needed to confirm the scope.
Questions about cctv & security systems
How much does a CCTV installation cost?
Camera count, image requirements, cable routes, recording equipment, storage and network work determine the scope. Identify the areas you want to monitor and how you want to view footage. A useful quote separates equipment, installation, configuration and any ongoing cloud or support costs.
Should I choose wired or wireless security cameras?
Wired systems can provide consistent power and data where cabling is practical. Wireless options depend on signal coverage and their power arrangement. The choice should suit the property, reliability needs and maintenance expectations; wireless does not necessarily mean no cables or no batteries to maintain.
How many cameras do I need?
Start with entrances, approaches and specific areas you need to observe. Camera positions, lens coverage and lighting matter more than simply adding devices. Share a plan or accessible photos so a layout can be discussed without unnecessarily viewing neighbours or private shared spaces.
Can CCTV record without an internet connection?
Some systems record locally to a recorder or camera storage without continuous internet. Remote viewing, cloud recording, notifications and setup functions may still depend on an internet connection. Confirm the selected product's offline behaviour and storage arrangement rather than assuming all cameras work the same way.

Can I view CCTV on my phone?
Many systems support authorised remote viewing, subject to the equipment, app and internet connection. Access permissions should be agreed, with secure account settings and a clear owner for administration. Ask whether setup, user training and any subscription are included in the proposed scope.
Guidance: Axis camera system guidance
How long will CCTV footage be stored?
Retention depends on storage capacity, camera count, resolution, recording settings and whether footage is stored locally or in the cloud. Tell us your desired retention period before equipment is selected. Ask how older recordings are overwritten and how important footage can be exported.
Will security cameras work at night?
Suitable cameras can provide night viewing, but performance depends on light levels, distance, reflections and the required detail. A camera that detects movement may not clearly identify a person at that distance. Describe the outcome you need so positioning and lighting can be considered together.
Can CCTV be installed in strata common areas?
It can be considered with the authorised owners corporation or strata contact. Confirm permissions, camera views, access to footage and responsibility for the system before installation. Private-property, workplace and strata surveillance issues can involve different rules; do not assume a camera purchase provides all necessary approvals.
Guidance: IPC NSW private-property CCTV guidance
Can security cameras record audio as well as video?
Some products can, but recording conversations raises separate surveillance-law issues. Do not assume permission to capture video also permits audio. Confirm the legal and property requirements before enabling recording features, particularly in shared spaces or workplaces. IPC NSW points customers to relevant surveillance-law advice.

Does a CCTV installer need a security licence in NSW?
Yes. NSW Police states that people selling, installing, maintaining, repairing or servicing security equipment need the relevant Class 2C security licence. Ask to see the security credentials as well as qualifications for any electrical wiring or communications cabling involved in the job.
