LED & feature lighting in Eastern Sydney & Bayside

Apexelec plans and installs LED, task, feature and general lighting. We consider how a space is used, the existing installation and the controls you need. A good lighting brief covers practical visibility as well as the appearance of the room.

What we can help with

  • LED replacement and lighting upgrades
  • Feature and architectural lighting
  • Task lighting for workplaces
  • Switching and dimming assessment

Prepare for a useful quote

Include your suburb, property type, a description of the job and any relevant equipment models. Photos of accessible fittings or the outside of the switchboard can help. Do not remove covers or expose wiring to take photographs.

For a shared property, provide the strata or building contact and any approval or access requirements. We can discuss whether an on-site assessment is needed to confirm the scope.

Questions about led & feature lighting

How much does LED or feature-light installation cost?

The number and type of fittings, ceiling access, existing wiring, switching and any dimmer changes affect the quote. Share the rooms, desired lighting effect and product details. We can distinguish replacing existing fittings from new lighting positions and additional wiring.

Can I replace halogen downlights with LED lights?

Often, but the fitting, driver or transformer, wiring and dimmer need to be checked together. Changing a globe alone does not guarantee a suitable LED conversion. For alterations to fixed wiring or fittings, use a licensed electrician and check the chosen product's installation instructions.

Why do LED lights flicker or buzz when dimmed?

Possible causes include a mismatched dimmer, unsuitable driver, load limitations or an electrical fault. Tell us the light and dimmer models and when the problem occurs. The lighting and control need to be assessed as a system rather than assuming every LED is compatible with every dimmer.

Are all LED lights dimmable?

No. A fitting or globe must be designed for dimming, and its driver and dimmer must be compatible. Some products have restrictions on the number of fittings or dimming range. Check compatibility before buying the lights, especially when keeping an existing dimmer.

Should I choose warm white or cool white lighting?

Warm tones are often chosen for living and relaxation spaces, while more neutral tones can suit task areas. The right choice also depends on finishes, brightness and personal preference. Decide room by room, and consider how adjacent spaces will look together.

Can LED downlights be covered by ceiling insulation?

Only where the particular fitting's rating and installation instructions allow it. Clearance and covering requirements differ between products. We check the selected fitting and ceiling conditions; do not cover existing lights simply because another LED model permits it.

Can you install pendant lights or LED strip lighting?

These installations can be scoped alongside general lighting. Send the product details, intended position and any joinery plans. Drivers, switching, access for maintenance and mounting support need to be considered, particularly for concealed strips or larger pendant fittings.

How many lights will a room need?

There is no useful one-size-fits-all number. Room dimensions, ceiling height, beam angle, light output and the tasks in the space affect the layout. A plan should consider general, task and feature lighting instead of relying on wattage or fitting count alone.

Will upgrading to LED reduce my electricity use?

An efficient LED can use less power than an older fitting providing comparable useful light. The saving depends on the products, quantity and hours of use. We can discuss appropriate replacements, but a lighting upgrade does not guarantee a particular reduction in the whole property's bill.

Can I keep my existing switches when upgrading the lights?

Possibly. Ordinary switching, dimming and smart control have different compatibility requirements. Share photos and model details for controls you want to retain. We assess whether the existing wiring and controls suit the new fittings before confirming the installation scope.
