Power point installation & replacement in Eastern Sydney & Bayside

A desk in the spare room, a new kitchen appliance or a better furniture layout can leave the nearest power point in the wrong place. Apexelec installs and replaces power points for Sydney homes, with the position, equipment and existing circuit considered together. We can discuss a single replacement or several outlets as part of a room update.

What we can help with

  • Additional single and double power points
  • Replacement of worn or damaged outlets
  • Power point relocation during renovations
  • USB outlet and equipment-specific enquiries
  • Weatherproof outlets for suitable outdoor locations

Start with how you use the room

Show us where the desk, bed, television or kitchen equipment will sit. Include the items that need to stay plugged in and the outlets you already have. This helps establish useful positions before choosing the fittings, rather than placing another outlet where it is easiest to reach.

The circuit and cable route matter

An outlet position needs a suitable supply and a workable cable route. Wall construction, access above or below the room and the equipment you intend to use can change the scope. An outdoor outlet also needs to suit its exposure and intended use. We assess these details before confirming the installation.

What to send with your enquiry

  • The room and proposed outlet positions
  • Photos of the wall and existing outlets
  • What will be plugged into each outlet
  • Whether the wall is brick, plaster or another construction
  • Any renovation schedule or access restrictions

Questions about power point installation & replacement

How much does adding or replacing a power point cost?

The outlet type, cable route, wall construction, circuit condition and access affect the quote. Replacing a suitable existing outlet differs from adding a new position or circuit. Send the location, equipment you intend to use and photos of accessible fittings for a useful starting scope.

Can I replace a single outlet with a double power point?

It can be assessed, but adding socket positions does not increase the circuit's available capacity. The existing wiring, protection and intended load need to be suitable. Replacement of a fixed power point is electrical wiring work and requires a licensed electrician.

Will a new power point need its own circuit?

Not always. The electrician assesses the existing circuit, wiring, protection and the equipment being supplied. A high-demand appliance or unsuitable existing circuit can require a new dedicated connection. Tell us the appliance specifications rather than assuming an extra outlet provides extra electrical capacity.

Can I install or replace a power point myself?

No. Fixed-wiring work in NSW requires a licensed electrician. Do not remove the faceplate or expose wiring to investigate a fault. Keep a damaged outlet out of use and arrange assessment, especially if there is heat, discolouration or sparking.

Can you install USB or USB-C charging power points?

These can be considered where suitable products and wiring are available. Check the charging output and device compatibility before choosing a model; a USB socket is not a guarantee of the charging speed your laptop or phone needs. Send the product details with your enquiry.

Can power points be installed outdoors?

Yes, suitable locations and equipment can be assessed. Weather exposure, mounting, cable protection and circuit protection matter, including whether the outlet must remain suitable while equipment is plugged in. Describe the outdoor use and location rather than choosing an outlet solely by appearance.

Where can power points be installed in a bathroom or kitchen?

Positioning must meet the applicable rules for wet areas and fixed water containers. The basin, bath, shower and final room layout affect permitted positions. Provide the plan before tiling or joinery is finalised; an outlet cannot be placed anywhere simply because it is labelled weatherproof.

Can new outlets be installed without damaging the walls?

Sometimes existing cavities or accessible spaces allow a concealed route, but this depends on construction and access. Surface conduit or patching may be needed. Discuss the route and who will complete any finishing work before the scope is agreed.

Why is my power point hot, loose or sparking?

These symptoms need assessment and should not be treated as normal. Stop using the outlet and keep others away. For smoke, fire, injury or immediate danger, call 000. Do not keep plugging equipment in to reproduce the fault or open the fitting to inspect it.

Can I add several outlets in one visit?

A combined enquiry can be assessed. List every location and what it will supply so the circuit requirements and cable access are considered together. We confirm the materials, duration and any planned power interruption after the scope is established.
